What Are Veneers?
A veneer is a thin shell of ceramic bonded to the front of a tooth. At JokaDent we make veneers from E-Max, a glass-ceramic that looks and reflects light like natural enamel.
They can correct chips, gaps, stains that whitening can't lift, and teeth that are uneven in size or shape.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Veneers need healthy teeth and gums underneath them. Cavities or gum problems are treated first.
If you grind your teeth heavily, tell your dentist. It doesn't always rule veneers out, but you may need to protect them at night.
How Much of My Tooth Will Be Changed?
Usually a very thin layer of enamel is removed, so the veneer sits naturally and doesn't look bulky. Because enamel doesn't grow back, this step is permanent.
Ask your dentist how much preparation your particular case needs.
Can I See the Result First?
In many cases, yes. A trial smile, or mock-up, lets you see and feel the new shape in your own mouth before anything permanent is done.
It is the moment to say if you want the teeth longer, softer or brighter.
How White Should They Be?
For many patients, the most pleasing results are the ones that look natural. A shade that suits your skin tone and the whites of your eyes will look better than the brightest white available.
If you also want your other teeth lighter, whiten them before your veneers are made, because veneers don't change color afterwards.
How Long Do They Last?
Well-made veneers that are cared for can last many years. Look after them as you would natural teeth: brush, clean between them, and keep your checkups.
Avoid biting on hard objects such as ice, pens or bottle caps.
