It Starts With a Check-Up
Whitening works best on healthy, clean teeth. We check for cavities and worn fillings first, and a professional cleaning removes the surface film so the gel reaches the enamel evenly.
Your starting shade is recorded, so you can see exactly how far your teeth have come.
Protecting Your Gums
A protective barrier is placed along the gum line. Only your teeth are exposed to the whitening gel, which keeps the treatment comfortable.
The Whitening Itself
The gel is applied to the front of your teeth and activated with light in short cycles. Between cycles, we check your progress and your comfort.
The appointment usually takes around an hour to an hour and a half. Most patients relax, listen to music, or simply close their eyes.
What It Feels Like
Many patients feel nothing at all. Some notice a brief tingling or sensitivity during the treatment or for a day or two afterwards, and it fades on its own.
What Whitening Can't Change
Whitening lightens natural enamel only. Crowns, veneers and white fillings keep their original color.
If you have visible restorations at the front of your mouth, tell us before you whiten. We will plan together so everything matches afterwards.
Keeping It Bright
For the first 48 hours your enamel takes up color more easily, so it pays to be careful:
- Skip coffee, tea, red wine, cola and strongly colored sauces.
- Avoid smoking.
- Choose light-colored food such as chicken, rice, pasta and white fish.
After that, good brushing, regular cleanings and a straw for dark drinks help your result last for many months.
Is It for Everyone?
Whitening is not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or while untreated cavities or gum problems are present. Your dentist will tell you at the check-up whether it suits you.
