How They Work
Traditional braces use brackets fixed to your teeth and a wire that gradually moves them into place. Invisible aligners are a series of clear, removable trays, each shaped slightly differently, that move your teeth step by step.
You change to a new set every week or two.
Visibility and Comfort
Braces are visible, and the brackets and wires can rub against your cheeks and lips. Aligners are nearly invisible and made of smooth plastic, which many patients find more comfortable day to day.
Aligners often use small tooth-colored bumps, called attachments, bonded to some teeth. They help the trays grip and are barely noticeable.
Eating and Cleaning
With braces, some foods are off the menu, and brushing around brackets takes extra time. Aligners come out to eat and to brush, so you can eat what you like and clean your teeth as normal.
Discipline Matters
Because aligners are removable, results depend on wearing them as instructed, typically 20 to 22 hours a day. Braces are fixed, so they don't rely on your discipline in the same way.
After Treatment
Whichever you choose, teeth tend to drift back towards their old position. Wearing a retainer as your dentist advises is what keeps your new smile straight.
Which Should You Choose?
Both options can give excellent results. The right one depends on the complexity of your case, your daily routine and your personal preference.
At JokaDent, orthodontic treatment is with invisible aligners. At your consultation, your dentist will tell you whether they suit your case.
